We focus a lot on the person, their family, and making sure their family is aware of everything that’s happening. There are a lot of attorneys that spend time with the client but don’t alert the family about changes or anything that’s moving on. And I think it’s very important — especially for a younger client — to have involvement from their family, so they’re not playing telephone with their family every time.

We really try to focus on the client as a human, and to make sure that whoever I’m speaking to — whether it’s a prosecutor or a judge — that the judge knows who he is or she is, not who “case number blah blah blah” is. It’s really a good way to make sure that everyone feels more comfortable making decisions about the case.

The service that we provide is very hands-on. I have an assistant who handles most phone calls. I have an assistant that handles most calendar invites and sends out correspondence to clients to alert them of their court dates or any action on their case.

I try to meet with people as often as possible in person, if not on Zoom. I really try to make sure that the client understands that I’m there for them. I’m their big brother for a couple months, or I’m their uncle for a few months — whatever it takes — so that the family and the client knows that we’re all here together. This is a team effort.
